Oakland Schools Foundation Expands to Become Leading Resources and Services Organization for Oakland's Public Schools

Oakland, CA — In keeping with its mission to promote excellence in Oakland's public schools so that all students have the opportunity to succeed, the Oakland Small Schools Foundation has become the Oakland Schools Foundation (OSF).

The name change represents OSF's goal to widen the organization's reach and solidify its role as the leading education foundation and services agency for Oakland public schools. This evolution parallels OSF's expanding partnerships with the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD), community and business organizations, and local foundations. By the end of 2010-11 the organization will extend its network to include more than 50 schools serving 18,000 students.

"We believe OSF plays a key role in supporting excellence and equity for all Oakland students," says Executive Director Holly Babe Faust. "By expanding our network of schools and our community partnerships, we hope to help Oakland schools continue their recent academic growth, and support the passion and innovation we see in so many of our schools' leaders. Oakland’s schools are poised for even greater success, and we will do whatever we can to help them get there."

OSF will commemorate its name change on Thursday, February 25 during an invitation-only fundraiser at the Bellevue Club at Lake Merritt, where OUSD Superintendent Dr. Tony Smith will deliver the keynote address. This reception precedes OSF's 2nd Annual Principal Fishbowl.
