Vision & History
Peralta Creek Middle School (PCMS) is a new small school opening in Fall of 2006 in Oakland Unified School District with 240 students in grades 6 and 7. We are located in Oakland’s Fruitvale neighborhood on the Calvin Simmons Middle School Campus where the current attendance is 60% Latino, 22% African American, and 16% Asian and Pacific Islander. Peralta Creek Middle School will prepare all students for learning, work, and life in the 21st century.
School Program
Peralta Creek Middle School provides a caring, secure environment for all students that personalizes instruction to meet the individual needs of all students through a daily advisory class. Our extended-day program offers students an outlet to achieve in student government, sports, and various programs to be guided by the interests of the students. To ensure that great teachers teach students, teachers at PCMS are provided with weekly team collaboration time, and opportunities for professional development and leadership roles. Family and community involvement is crucial to success at PCMS. Successful PCMS families understand and support students as they undergo the rigor of an engaging standards-based curriculum. Throughout the school year, supports will be designed to assist all students and families to meet a challenging curriculum. PCMS will institute a “Zero Tolerance” policy with regards to discipline and academic achievement.
Support
Peralta Creek Middle School needs private contributions to maintain the high academic achievement demanded by all children and adults at the school. Join us in our “Sponsor a Peralta Creek Student” campaign to provide resources for our students. Tax-deductible donations provide student books and supplies, extended day programming, classroom library books and, with your help, smaller class size for all students. If we reach our goal of raising $100 per student ($240,000) by the end of next year, we will be able to support the needs of every student as they prepare for learning, work and life in the 21st century.
